Join the Women's Rugby Team!
Rice Women's Rugby is currently rebuilding and is looking for new members. The Rice Rugby Program has had varied success throughout its history. The current Rice Men's Rugby team is the Division II Texas Champion, 2nd in the West, and competed in the Collegiate Division II Rugby Sweet 16. Rugby is a contact sport that is like a mashup of American football and soccer. It involves kicking, tackling, and ball movement up the field with the ultimate goal of scoring (called a try). In rugby, there are many differences from other sports that make rugby fun, interesting, and exciting, including the rule that the ball must go backwards during play. In the sport of rugby size and shape does not matter. There is a place for everyone on the field including the petite as well as the full figured and everyone in between. Play sports in high school?. Or maybe not! Current members come from a variety of backgrounds ranging from basketball to dance to no athletic experience at all. The team is a member of the Texas Rugby Union and part of Division II, so we travel to play other universities in the state including: UT Austin, Texas State University, TCU, San Angelo, and Sam Houston. If you’re looking to have fun and get in shape and on campus and around the state of Texas, join women's rugby for the 2011 - 2012 season.
